How much does window replacement cost?

Retrofit or full-frame — which do I need?

Retrofit inserts ($450–800 per vinyl window here) reuse your existing frames and cost roughly half of full-frame ($800–1,400), but they only make sense if the frames are sound and square. Rot, leaks or fogging between brickmould and frame mean full-frame is the honest fix — a dealer who checks before quoting is a good sign.

Why do entry doors cost so much more than windows?

An entry door ($1,800–3,500 installed) is structure, security hardware, weathersealing and finish carpentry in one opening. Patio sliders run similar money for the same reason. Doors are also where air leaks live, so cheap installs show up on heating bills.

Are window rebates real?

Frequently, yes — utilities and government retrofit programs cycle rebates for ENERGY STAR windows and doors. They change often, so ask the dealer what is active; a legitimate one will know because the paperwork flows through them.
